TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A popular Skycap at Tallahassee International Airport has died.
Affectionately called "Mr. J," Ervin Johnson served as a sky captain for more than 27 years, greeting passengers with good natured smiles since 1991.
He was often the first and last face travelers would see as they made their way through the Capital City's airport and, he was highly respected in the community.
"Mr. J was an absolutely wonderful individual," said Mayor Pro Tem Curtis Richardson. "He gave all to what he did at the airport and made the traveling public feel special in the way that he would greet them, and assist them, during the time that he was there as a Skycap. "
City leaders joined Mr. J, his family, and friends to celebrate his 80th Birthday on March 16.
They declared March 17 a Tallahassee commemorative holiday in his honor. Some say he finally gained his wings.
