TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A longtime Tallahassee resident is celebrating her 100th birthday on Saturday.
Mary E. Givens was born in Tallahassee on November 14, 1915, under the name Mary Elizabeth McClinton.
Givens worked at a laundromat for more than 20 years in her youth in addition to working as a housekeeper.
In 1939, Givens married her husband Israel Givens and later had 4 children with him. Givens also has 8 grandchildren, 23 great-grand-children and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Her family says Givens has remained healthy and self-sufficient in her age; helping to raise some of her many grand, great-grand and great-great-grand-children.
Family and friends will be celebrating with her at the Rachel Missionary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
