VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta Fire and Police Departments held the first "Guns and Hoses" blood drive event on Thursday, July 31st. This was a "Battle of the Badges" competition that brought in overwhelming support from the community, said the city.
This was a competition between the fire and police departments. The department with the least units collected had to wash the vehicles of the other department. The police department won by three units. Their agreement says that the fire department will wash police cars in the VPD parking lot on Toombs Street.
The event brought in 91 pints, which the American Red Cross says, is the most ever collected at a Valdosta blood drive. According to fire department, that means a little over 11 gallons of blood have been donated to help the area. They say that this donation is very beneficial during the summer months, since they are usually low due to summer vacations.
