UPDATED MARCH 29 11:00 A.M.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A man led police on a high speed chase early Friday morning after being woken up by officers, according to an arrest report.

The incident happened on Friday, April 29, at 1:26 a.m. A Tallahassee police officer saw the suspect, unresponsive, in a car that was stopped in traffic. The 2012 Chevy Malibu was parked in the eastbound lane of Tharpe Street, at the intersection of High Road.

Another officer responded and parked in front of the car to keep the suspect from driving away when, or if, he awakened.

When an officer woke the suspect up, he reportedly drove into the front officers car, and then backed up and hit the other officers car. Police say the officers yelled stop several times, but the suspect didn't stop. In fact, one of the officers was reportedly hit with the driver's side of the vehicle, which caused him to shoot at the suspect.

The suspect lead officers on a high-speed chase through several red lights before officers ended the pursuit on Monroe Street.

Officers later found the vehicle parked in a lot at 705 West Jefferson Street. The suspect wasn't in the vehicle.  A police dog was able to track Jefferson to Florida State University's campus.

The suspect was tased and arrested between the Rovetta Business Building and the Bellamy Building on FSU's campus. He was identified as 24-year-old Dante D. Davis.

It was later discovered that the Malibu had been rented from Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Davis was taken to the Leon County Jail. He's charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing from law enforcement with disregard to safety of persons or property, driving with license suspended or revoked, resisting officer without violence, and hit and run.

Officer David Northway with Tallahassee Police Department says around 1:30 a.m. Friday officers spotted a man passed out in his car, stopped at a red light, at the corner of Tharpe Street and High Street.

Northway says at least two police officers used their vehicles to box in the car. As officers approached the car the driver began ramming his car into the two police cruisers. That's when Northway says one of the officers pulled out his department issued gun and fired at the car.

The suspect then took off and police followed on a short chase before calling the pursuit off. Eventually officers tracked the suspect and arrested him on the campus of Florida State University.

No one was injured.

Northway says investigators are interviewing witnesses who were on board a StarMetro bus that was at the intersection at the time of the shooting. He adds as per station policy, an internal investigation will also be conducted to ensure officers acted within station procedure.
