UPDATE: Suspect dead in Cairo

CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL)--Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have a released the name of the man who they say charged police with a knife.

It happened Monday morning on the 400 block of 11th Avenue Northeast in Cairo.

The man allegedly charged at an officer with a knife. That's when another officer drove his car between the two to stop the stabbing.

The officer ended up hitting 24-year old Izaiah Goar and killing him.

Officers were told Goar had been chasing shoppers at a near by store parking lot, threatening to stab them.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.

CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL)--A person is dead after police say he chased people through a parking lot trying to stab them.

Officers with the Cairo Police Department say it happened Monday morning around 10:20 a.m. at the 400 block of 11th Avenue Northeast.

Officers say the tried to persuade the male suspect to put the knife down but he refused. Another officer then tried to park a city vehicle between an officer and the suspect to protect the officer.

Officers say the suspect was hit and did not survive.

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are handling the case.
