MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- A man wanted for a robbery in central Florida has been caught after a brief high speed chase in Gadsden County.

Lt. Leslie C. Herald with Florida Highway Patrol tells WTXL that an trooper first saw the car driving at a high rate of speed on Interstate 10. The trooper followed the car to a near by gas station but by the time the trooper arrived the driver was gone.

The trooper ran the car's tag and found that it was reported stolen out of Volusia County. Lt. Herald says they were told by Volusia County deputies they believed the vehicle was involved in a robbery there.

Eventually the driver was found walking around the gas station. As the trooper and a deputy from the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office approached the man to ask him questions, Lt. Herald says the man took off eventually getting into the car and driving off onto Highway 267. As the man tried to get onto Highway 90, Lt. Herald says the man lost control crashing into some trees.

Lt. Herald says the man got out of the car with a knife but was quickly arrested by troopers and deputies.

The driver has been taken to an area hospital. His condition is not known.
