TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- At any given time, one in five people go hungry in the country but one local non-profit organization is hoping to change that statistic.

Second harvest has teamed up with Winn Dixie to host a hunger relief awareness day.

Organizers say people got a chance Saturday to pledge any amount of money on these sheets of paper and with that money Winn Dixie picks out food for Second Harvest. They say for as little as one dollar you can provide a family in need with four meals.

“She was like I have no way to get food you know I'm starving i just had surgery on my hip so I have no one to give me any food my family I have no family anywhere and so she had no clue how to do that and so I had to basically find a certain agency to come out and actually give her food and so that kind of opened my eyes to how important this is and how important it is to give back and feed those that don't have the opportunity to get food,” said organizer Scott Branton.

All the proceeds go the Second Harvest food bank.
