TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Students in the capital city and around the country had a chance to get stratospheric experience with science learning Friday morning.
Buck Lake Elementary School conducted its fourth annual Weather Balloon Launch in the baseball fields near the school.
Three high-altitude helium-filled balloons were released into the air with hundreds of children and adults watching. Some of the balloons carried a variety of experiments assembled by the school, along with cameras, weather observation, and tracking equipment.
The launch and the balloons' rise into the atmosphere were livestreamed to a broader pre-registered audience online.
WTXL chief meteorologist Casanova Nurse appeared on the school's closed-circuit TV morning news program with a summary of atmospheric conditions and a forecast for the balloons' ascent into the sky.
