Tallahassee, FL (WTXL) -- Tallahassee law enforcement is hosting an event for citizens to sell their guns. The hope is to help reduce violent crime in the area.

David Perry, Chief of FSU Police, said that, "If we just get that one gun off the street that could be used in the commission of a crime or could hurt someone then we were successful".

This is the third gun buyback hosted by NOBLE, the National Organization for Black Law Enforcement Executives. They hold the event every two years in Tallahassee.

The event has been expanded to two days and two locations this year.

On Friday, August 15th, the event will be at Thomasville Road Baptist Church from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, August 16th, the gun buyback will be at Bethel AME Church from 1 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

At each location, there will be firearms experts to assist in the transaction. Visitors of the events can be helped directly from their vehicles.

If someone is unable to attend either event, they may call to have a TPD officer meet them and make the purchase.

NOBLE is offering $25 gift cards for small hand guns and $50 gift cards for larger weapons.
