MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL)--Just three weeks from elections and residents in Midway are asking for an emergency hearing to remove incumbent Mayor Pro-temp Charles Willis from the ballot.
Willis has been serving on the council for 14 years.
Concerned residents now filing an official complaint with the Gadsden county 2nd Judicial Circuit court today.
They say documents show Willis lives outside of the current district he is running for.
Willis is running for District 4 but residents say he lives here in District 2.
According to the City of Midway's charter, a candidate can only run for a district seat where they reside and they must continue to live there throughout their term in office.
"The sad thing is he's been in office for 14 years, he knows what's right, he knows what he's doing, he's intentionally misleading the citizens of midway and he should do what's right by our city and be fair and drop out of this race," said Leslie Steele.
The Gadsden County Supervisor of Elections qualifying documents show willis used a P.O. box for his address back in March.
We spoke with willis over the phone--he says he would not like to comment at this time, but he added it's now up to the voters to decide.
