LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WTXL) - A Lowndes County Deputy was involved in a shooting while he was responding to a mental health complaint, said the sheriff's department.
The incident happened just before noon on Friday at a home on Cranston Circle.
The sheriff's department has not released details about what led up to the shooting, but did say that the deputy was put in a situation where he used force.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, deputies were responding to a 911 call about a man with a gun threatening to commit suicide. When deputes arrived on scene, the man walked out of his house with the gun when he was shot, said GBI Special Agent Steve Turner.
The victim, a 52-year-old man, was taken to Southern Georgia Medical Center, where he is expected to recover. The deputy was uninjured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was also called in to investigate this shooting.
