TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County Commissioners have approved the sale of the downtown tourism building.
They'll use the money to pay for the renovation of the historic Amtrak Building.
Leon County Commissioner Kristin Dozier, District 5, said: "It is really exciting. I think it's absolutely the time to move the building. But I also want to recognize that I think this is really responsible on our part because this was an incredibly valuable property downtown, it's not the highest and best use."
During Tuesday's meeting, Dozier talked about how the tourism office located on East Jefferson Street in downtown Tallahassee is a more desirable property for other types of businesses.
She says the Amtrak building located on Railroad Avenue is a more accessible location.
Commissioner Nick Maddox added that it's also good to have the tax dollars rolling back in to Leon County
The historic Amtrak building currently houses the county's Human Services and Community Partnership department.
