TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) --  It's been nearly two weeks since an 18-year girl was run over in a hit-and-run accident, and family members say they finally got to visit with her on Thursday.

Jackie Faircloth remains in a coma-like state, but her family says she's getting better.

They report doctors slowly started weaning her off of sedation medication earlier this week. The swelling in her brain is also going down, and because of her improving condition, Jackie will finally be able to undergo surgery.

The accident happened in the 600 block of Pensacola Street. Police say Jackie was stepping off the curb, when he was hit by a car.

The driver left the scene, but a passenger later turned him in.

Devon Dwyer, 20, who's now facing criminal charges, says he was texting when the accident happened.
