TALLAHASSEE (WTXL)-- Hermine is currently a category one hurricane with sustained winds of 75 mph and gusts up to 90 mph. It is becoming more organized and is forecast to intensify slightly before making landfall later tonight. The main impacts will begin this evening including wind damage, tree damage which could result in power outages, flooding rain and isolated tornadoes.
Storm surge is currently impacting coastal areas of the Big Bend. Potential impacts include roads being washed out as well as other structural damages.
Dangerous winds are unfolding now across the Florida Big Bend. Potential impacts include damage to homes, uprooted trees, blocked roads, and widespread power outages.
Rainfall flooding could also have extensive impacts across north Florida and South Georgia. Low lying areas and coastal regions could see significant flooding along roadways and homes.
There is a tornado threat as well across north Florida and South Georgia. Isolated tornadoes are expected and could cause structural damage.
The storm will continue to move towards the north-northeast at 14 mph before speeding up and moving out of the region by Saturday.
