TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- More intense heat and oppressive levels of moisture are expected in the region today, raising concerns for weather-related health issues in the afternoon.
The National Weather Service has placed many counties in north Florida and southern Georgia under a Heat Advisory in anticipation of soaring temperatures and oppressive "feels-like" levels.
The advisory stretches from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
While forecast highs are in the mid and upper 90s, the heat index, or feels-like temperature, may climb as high as 113° during the peak hours of daytime warming.
People affected are urged to limit exposure to the heat, take frequent cool breaks, and remain hydrated by drinking ample amounts of water or similar fluids.
