TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- If you are a fan of the Noles and how well they have been doing, news of a contract extension may come as an early Christmas gift for you.

Florida State University Director of Athletics Stan Wilcox announced that Coach Jimbo Fisher was signed to a new eight-year contract though the 2022 season.

"I am pleased that we have been able to secure Coach Fisher as our head coach for the long term," said Wilcox. "The commitment we are making to him is a reflection of the outstanding job he has done in leading our program to its current level of excellence. While we are delighted with the undefeated season this year and our upcoming appearance in the inaugural College Football Playoff, we began working on this new contract before the success of this past season was in full view. It is a great day for Florida State."

Florida State has won 29 straight games under Coach Fisher. They also won the 2013 National Championship and are headed to the Rose Bowl in January.

The University says it is still working through some details of the contract and will release the document once it is complete.
