TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford is going to require legislators to starting pay more for health insurance.
Starting in January, House members enrolled in the state's health insurance plan will have to pay the same for health insurance as rank-and-file state workers.
Career service workers pay $50 a month in premiums for individual coverage and $180 a month for family coverage. Senators started paying the same rate as career service workers this year.
House members - as well as Gov. Rick Scott and other top state officials - have been paying $8.34 a month for individual coverage and $30 a month for family coverage.
State legislators have come under fire for their low-cost insurance rates. House Republicans this spring rejected billions in federal aid to expand Medicaid for low-income Floridians.
