TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- By next week, Florida is expected to have nearly one million concealed weapon licenses.
Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam announced Wednesday that Florida has the largest number of concealed weapon permit holders in the nation.
Putnam said that number has risen sharply over the last four years.
“I think the fact that so many Floridians have obtained it and so many Floridians have responsibly used that license is a testament to our neighbors, to fellow Floridians that they've taken advantage of this opportunity and they've used it wisely and responsibly,” said Putnam.
Putnam said that four out of five people with a permit are male and roughly 10 % of those with a valid permit are out of state residents.
