TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Chief Meteorologist Casanova Nurse visited nearly 200 second-graders at Gilchrist Elementary in Tallahassee Thursday afternoon to discuss weather hazards and safety.
Cas was joined by Sharon Tyler, executive director of the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The duo highlighted various weather dangers and tips for the students on how to avoid them. Casanova focused on the scientific aspect of how thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and flooding can occur, while Sharon gave information on safety measures and family emergency planning.
The talk was held in conjunction with the school's Science Week, featuring lessons, presentations and seminars in science, engineering, math, and technology fields. The school hosted nighttime gatherings for students and their families focusing on these "STEM" topics this week.
