CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. (WTXL) - The new school year is starting soon, and north Florida agencies came together to make sure students and bus drivers will be travelling to school safely. The Panhandle Area Education Consortium (PAEC), Wakulla County School District, and Wakulla County Public Safety agencies held an event for school bus safety on Monday, August 11th.

This event included a school bus evacuation exercise and school bus extraction with the help of Wakulla County Sheriff's Office vehicles, firefighters, EMS, medical helicopters and many school buses.

The event started at Wakulla High School with a bus evacuation drill, and then moved to the River of Life Church for a video presentation that included a mock scenario which dealt with an active shooter during a bus evacuation.

According to PAEC, the sheriff's office prepared the event for approximately 450 participants from 13 counties. 350 of those participants were bus drivers.
