TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- The City of Tallahassee's Animal Service Center hosted the "Me and My New Best Friend Blood Drive." It was their annual blood drive to celebrate National Pet Day.
More than 40 people came in on April 13 to donate blood and in turn receive a "Golden Paw" voucher and a free t-shirt. The vouchers could then be used to receive a waived adoption fee for any adoptable pets in the shelter through June 30.
The ASC partnered with OneBlood to host the event that was held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
According to a press release from the ASC, "Donating blood is a simple act with a very powerful consequence. Each main blood component - red cells, platelets and plasma - has a distinct characteristic that can be used to help different types of health issues and people. In fact, one whole blood donation can save up to three lives!"
