TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend in Tallahassee needs your vote to help feed children in the Big Bend.
According to Second Harvest, more than 114,900 people live in poverty in the 11 counties they serve. Of those, 29,400 are children.
Second Harvest needs your help, and your vote, to win a $45,000 grant from Walmart. The grant would be used to provide 9,000 backpacks filled with food for children identified by faculty and staff at their schools as not having adequate access to food during weekends and holidays. Second Harvest says backpacks typically have a breakfast item, snacks, milk or juice, a loaf of bread, produce and some type of meal item such as beans and rice.
Bags are distributed to 287 children each weekend for the entire school year.
People can vote once per day.
