TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It was all about women’s success Friday as The Tallahassee-Leon Commission on the Status of Women and Girls hosted a public hearing to gather feedback on economic security.
Friday's meeting is a follow up to a series of community meetings held in 2015. The commission’s goal is to learn about challenges women in the community face reaching economic success.
The commission uses feedback from these public hearings to make recommendations to the county commission.
During the 2015 meetings, women said they wanted more employment opportunities and job skill development resources.
Organizers say, many times the level of education and student loans prevent women from reaching economic security.
“If they didn’t have the financial means to go on past high school and get a secondary education, then the kinds of employment opportunities that were available might require that extra post secondary education which they weren’t able to achieve because of the lack of financial means," said Elizabeth Jackson, Tallahassee-Leon Commission on the Status of Women and Girls Commissioner.
These issues are exactly what the The Commission on the Status of Women and Girls want to hear about, so they can work to address these issues.
