TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Friday, Deerlake Middle School 8th graders learned all about the dangers of distracted driving thanks to a program put on by Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH).
The students were shown the consequences of driving drunk or driving distracted. They were shown videos, and even got interactive.
Some students wore beer goggles to simulate the feeling of getting behind the wheel drunk.
They had to make it through an obstacle course on stage with the goggles on.
Alex Stemle, Dean of Students, Athletic Director and P.E. teacher at Deerlake Middle School, said it's an important lesson for kids who are about to go to high school.
"These kids are getting excited about driving and going into high school have a little bit more freedom and this is the chance for the conversation again with them, their parents and us about their choices and decision making," explains Stemle.
TMH says they made sure to stress that students should not be afraid to say "no" if they are asked to get into a car with a drunk driver.
