TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The sales-tax free holiday started up this week.

Local retailers have seen dozens of people make big purchases from generators to box fans.

A local store manger says customers normally spend anywhere from $200 to over $1,000 preparing for hurricane season.

"We've seen a huge increase in customers coming in already. We have seen sales of tarps, gas cans, generators so we're seeing a pretty increase the closer these storms are coming," said Spencer Arundel, Sales Manager at Apalachee Ace Hardware.

Store managers advise people to get hurricane supplies early and get plenty of food, water, light and items to keep your supplies and family members cool.

The holiday will end June 7.
