TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Friday after Thanksgiving has been deemed the official start of the Christmas shopping season since the 1950's.

Now, Black Friday encompasses the entire week, as deals start early and some businesses open on Thanksgiving Day.

Many businesses around Tallahassee have already sent holiday coupons to their shoppers and are running deals for the flurry of activity anticipated first thing on Friday.

We all know that Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Because of that, small businesses around Tallahassee are trying creative ways to get your attention and your money on this busy day. One shop in Midtown, Sparkle by Madison, is selling limited wrist bands that come with great deals.

Sparkle by Madison has deals for those without bands too and will open at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.

Quarter Moon Imports, a gift shop on Lake Ella, has been open for 28 years and the owner, Wendy Halleck, says Black Friday is an important day for her shop. The store opens at 9 on Friday morning and discounts run through the weekend.

This is a great time of year to be thankful for our local businesses and support them.

Have fun and good luck getting that extra special bargain!
