TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee security expert says the recent Marriott data breach is the worst security breach he's ever seen.
The hotel chain is currently working through a security incident that left the personal information of about 500 million guests at risk.
A Tallahassee digital security expert said the stolen information is likely up for sale on the dark web.
Hackers who want to use the information, will embed a code into a fake Marriott email, so don't trust any e-mails, not matter how official they look.
If you're one of the customers who may be impacted by this breach, you need to follow all of the normal protection procedures.
"So what you need to do is change all of our passwords immediately, consider cancelling that account, monitor your credit scores, take a really close look at your credit card statements even daily to make sure your information isn't out there," said Chief Executive Officer of Aegis Business Technologies, Blake H. Dowling.
He also said this most likely will not be the last breach, so it's important to take precautions to keep your information safe.
Marriott’s CEO expresses that the company is doing everything it can to support guests and move forward from this.
