TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) -- Residents along Joe Louis Street at the Springfield Apartments had their power turned back on Thursday afternoon. Not soon enough though for some residents' nearly all of the food in their fridge was spoiled.

The complex houses low income residents, and is used to assist families in preparation for home ownership or financial stability. They say having the power out for two days was a big hit on their budget, since they lost most of their perishable food.

"I can say I lost around eighty dollars worth of groceries," said Priscilla White, a Springfield resident. "I lost probably, I say about three hundred - something dollars for groceries," another resident added.

For households with children, the food loss has taken an extra toll on families, "I don't think it was even fair to our kids. And I don't know, it was just a mess," explains a resident.

Some families say they lost everything from milk to meat, and the warm weather didn't help but caused food to spoil faster.

The families in the area are taking it one day at a time but the uncertainty of future severe weather will continue to keep food scarcity in parents minds.
