TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Local church members are helping the homeless in the Capital City by providing a hot meal at Lake Ella.

According to the Big Bend Homeless Coalition, over the course of one year it estimates, three to four thousand children and adults in the Big Bend will experience homelessness.

The Henderson family says, it puts into perspective what's really important.

They feel like they're making a difference one meal at a time.

"We're supposed to help those that are less fortunate, and that is why we do it. I've often had people come up and say they haven't had a meal in a week," said Vernon Henderson. "It really pleases me to know that we helped get their next meal for them."

The meals included hot dogs and hamburgers, fruit, as well as a variety of desserts.
