TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Some seniors in our area have a new way to help beat the heat thanks an over $11,000 donation to Elder Care Services.

The money raised via donations to the "Be a Fan, Give a Fan" campaign was spearheaded by local radio hosts Cash and Woody.

The goal, deliver fans to seniors to keep them cool.

Elder Care has already given out about 175 fans and more than 400 others were donated when people in the community heard about the campaign.

And Friday morning, the big check presentation to buy even more fans.

"Triple digit heat indexes for as long as we can remember for the last few months and it's that way every summer in Florida," said Woody Hayes. "We've got to take care of our seniors because they've taken care of us throughout our life."

Thanks to the donation, another 500 or more seniors will be able to receive a fan to keep cool.
