TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- The local chapter of Planned Parenthood has seen more interest among volunteers in the weeks following November's election.
The organization says people are concerned newly elected officials might draw up policies that endanger reproductive rights on local and national levels.
Over 75 people went to the local chapter's latest volunteer meeting. That's about three times more than usual.
The recent growth has prompted the group to find different spots to meet including The Plant and the Oasis Center for Women and Girls.
Kimberly Diaz, a legislative representative for Planned Parenthood, said the messaging during the election has brought out concerns from locals who want to fight for reproductive rights.
"We're talking about contraception services, being able to access birth control, being able to access abortion care, so these are critical health services that should be available for the community," Diaz said. "Policy has been, in the past, passed in order to restrict that access, so there's a genuine concern that they're trying to take that away from people."
Diaz said Planned Parenthood is grateful to have community partners that have lent space and resources as their group has grown.
The local chapter is looking for a standard location to accommodate all volunteers for their monthly meetings.
