TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- One of four college students admits he or she has ridden with a drunk driver. It's a statistic one local group wants to stop.
The Northwest Florida chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) invited students and the community to a special event Wednesday night to encourage smart decision-making when it comes to alcohol and drugs.
According to MADD, 28 people die every day nationwide as a result of drunk driving crashes. Every 90 seconds, someone is injured in a drunk driving crash.
The local chapter organized a coffee night, with panelists who talked about the dangers of underage drinking and getting behind the wheel.
"This is a 100 percent preventable crime, and it can affect absolutely everybody -- those who drink, those who do not drink, those who are minors, those who are senior citizens, so, unfortunately, everybody is affected by this," said program specialist Claudia Machado.
