TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — For the past six years, a 96-year-old World War II veteran wakes up everyday to trek across the country to honor and raise money for the same ship he fought on.
The man's name is Ernie Andrus and served as crew on LST 325 in World War II that was responsible for bringing equipment and troops to hostile territory.
Andrus started his journey back in 2013 in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego and ran all the way to the Atlantic Ocean near Saint Simons Island, Georgia in 2016.
He didn't raise the full amount that he wanted to the first time, so now he's making his way back.
"I always try to go to breakfast after a run, a lot of people share breakfast with me," said Andrus.
