TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — More relief money on the way to help our communities still impacted today by Hurricane Michael, seven months later.
The news came during a campaign rally in Panama City Beach.
President Trump told his supporters that the money will help get families back on their feet.
He added that this money is just more money being added to the millions that he says...the state has already received in disaster-aid.
But some are concerned the President may be making empty promises.
WTXL's Political Contributor, Dr. Richard Murgo, says the President wants that money to come from HUD. That's not a normal allocation for disaster relief and it'll take some time to get approved.
"It will be difficult trying to go around Congress to do this because it's not a normal allocation for disaster relief so it will take a lot of time," said Dr. Murgo. "It will be a lot faster if it comes through Congress, but him and Congress have to to agree on who gets the money."
FEMA estimates storm damage from Category 5 Hurricane Michael is upwards of $53 billion.
Florida's legislature has approved close to $2 billion in disaster funding.
