TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Nearly two and half weeks ago, tornadoes tore through parts of the south affecting Alabama, Georgia, and even right here in the Big Bend.

Well one national grocery chain is looking to lend a helping hand locally.

Winn-Dixie has already donated nearly $226,000 to the American Red Cross to help victims with food and shelter.

Cody Elliot, Manager of the Winn-Dixie in Tallahassee, says its important for people to get involved when disaster like these strike.

"The donation is throughout the whole southeast, all of our stores combined, raised money with the help of the communities here in Tallahassee and other areas, to help give to the American Red Cross," said Elliot. "So they give it for food, shelter, and, also, counseling."

Elliot adds that the grocery chain wants to thank the Tallahassee area customers for being a helping hand for neighbors in need.
