ALLIGATOR POINT, Fla. (WTXL) — After several days and multiple searches, it has been confirmed that the third boater who disappeared near Alligator Point last week has died.

The family of Darren Peterson made the announcement on Facebook Monday night.

Darren's Wife also spoke with WTXL and told us authorities helped them confirm the 46- year-old's death.

The boating accident happened on Oct.20.

The Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission searched the area for about four days before suspending their search on Friday.

Peterson's family flew in from Colorado this weekend, after starting a fundraiser to continue their private search.

His wife told WTXL that on the third day of searching, crews found Peterson's shorts on the shore.

Two other men were also on board during the accident. One died and another was transported to an area hospital.

Investigators believe the boat sank, due to a mechanical failure.
