LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. — A teen was killed and another teen is in critical condition after they crashed a reported stolen car in Lowndes County over the weekend, injuring a pedestrian.

The Georgia State Patrol said 14-year-old Benjamin Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. According to troopers, a reckless driver was reported in Tift County on Saturday. When authorities couldn't find the driver, they notified Cook County and the Adel Police Department.

APD located the vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the driver continued south on I-75, going at a high rate of speed.

Troopers said APD ended their chase around mile marker 36 and sent a BOLO (be on the lookout) to Cook and Lowndes counties.

According to troopers, the vehicle went airborne over SR-122 and slid into an ice machine in the parking lot of the Bigfoot Travel Center. The ice machine ultimately hit a pedestrian and they were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 16-year-old driver was flown to Tallahassee for treatment and was last reported in critical condition.

GSP said the car, a 2017 silver Infiniti, was listed stolen out of Columbus.

The incident is still under investigation and all charges are pending.
