MARIANNA, Fla. (WTXL) — A precautionary boil water notice is in effect for Jackson County Utilities customers in Marianna after a water main break Wednesday afternoon.

County commissioners say Jackson County Utilities had a water main break in the area of Highway 71 South Wednesday afternoon that is still under repair. They say break itself will hopefully be repaired Thursday.

The precautionary boil notice affects customers on the Jackson County Utilities service. They say customers should still have water, though the pressure may still be low.

Once the break is repaired, samples will be taken for bacteriological testing. The boil water notice will be lifted once sample results are confirmed negative for bacteria.

Water should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute before being used. Bottled water can also be used in lieu of boiling water.

The notice does not apply to city utilities customers nor Jackson County Utilities customers in Cottondale, as that system is separate from the one in the Marianna area.
