WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Wakulla County Sheriff's office is waiting on the go ahead from county commissioners to exercise stricter enforcement to keep peace along the Wakulla River.

With many open waterways closed due to the coronavirus, they've received more complaints about noise from people living near the river.

"Now that the other surrounding beaches have opened up, the traffic on the water has gone down a little bit," said Chis Savary, the public information officer for Wakulla County Sheriff's Office. "Not a ton, but were used to seeing heavy numbers on the water at this time of year. But we're waiting on that approval as far as the noise ordinance goes to give us a little bit more ammo to enforce some of these areas where the noise complaints have been a problem."

Noise complaints have been a point of contention from neighbors for several weeks.

The next scheduled commission meeting is on Monday, June 1.
