WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Wakulla community is celebrating a war veteran who has dedicated his whole life to putting others before himself.
Joe Williams served two years in the Navy then spent the rest as a volunteer firefighter and painter in Wakulla County.
He turned 100 years old Sunday, celebrating at New Bridge Hope Missionary Baptist Church. His family calls him a living inspiration.
"A true living legend. Like you hear today, he has so many stories to tell," said Angela Hilliard, Williams' granddaughter. "His life has been full of excitement ups and downs and you can only imaging what it was like to be born in 1919in the military.and apart of WW2."
Williams also got quite a few gifts Sunday, including one from Governor Ron DeSantis, who thanked him for his service.
