QUINCY, Fla. (WTXL) — In Quincy, a group of veterans pooled together with several local businesses to honor Gadsden County healthcare workers.

They were able to raise more than $7,000 in donations to thank them for the work they do to save lives through COVID-19.

"They're the ones who actually have to go out and put their lives on the line each and every day," said Maurice Williams, who coordinated the drive. "It's a big risk that you're taking. It's almost like you can't see it so you just have to pretty much go out and pray every single day. Not only are they putting their lives at risk, they're putting their families lives at risk and everything."

The Quincy mayor presented each worker with a certificate from the city. They also received gift cards and a free lunch.
