VALDOSTA, Ga. — Monday was the first day of the 21st annual Juried Valdosta State University Student Art Competition.
75 students submitted 225 different pieces of art work, that will be judged by an artist who is nationally acclaimed.
They kicked off the opening ceremony on Monday. The event was free and some of the students' art work is for sale.
Julie Bowland, Gallery Director and Professor at VSU, explained why it's important to show student art work.
"It really showcases all the different things that are offered in the art department, so the importance is really for students who have accomplished work that is worthy to be in a jury show like this to kind of show off their work," said Bowland.
Students who are in the top four will win money. The art gallery will stay up on VSU's campus until April 12.
