VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — Police are investigating after they say an argument led to a deadly shooting in Valdosta on Saturday night.

The Valdosta Police Department says officers responded to a shooting in the 900 block of Nardo Street on Saturday at approximately 6:54 p.m.

Upon their arrival, they found a large group of people gathering around a victim who had a gunshot wound to his torso.

The victim was identified as 32-year-old James Bivins Jr.

Emergency Medical Personnel arrived on scene and transported Bivins to South Georgia Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

VPD says additional officers responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

Through their investigation, detectives determined that there was a large number of people gathering in the area of Nardo Street and Summerlin Street.

Authorities say an altercation occurred within the crowd and resulted in shots being fired.

During the gunfire, police say Bivins was struck by a bullet.

At this time no charges have been filed against anyone and detectives are working closely with the District Attorney’s Office to determine the course of action for this case.

The investigation is on-going in this case and officers aren't releasing any other information at this time.

"This is a tragic incident, but when these individuals began shooting guns in this crowd, we are grateful that there was no one else seriously injured." Chief Leslie Manahan.
