VALDOSTA, Ga. — A family's Christmas destroyed in a matter of minutes.

A Valdosta family says they lost everything during a fire at the Parkwood complex Wednesday morning.

In all, three apartments were damaged leaving six people out of their homes just before Christmas.

"I want to cry. I want to cry so bad but I've been crying all morning. Crying is not going to bring anything back. I'm heartbroken," said homeowner Kilanda Clayton.

Clayton is emotional knowing that Christmas this year will not look the way she planned.

Clayton and her two young sons live in the Parkwood Complex off East Park Avenue.

An early morning fired destroyed everything, including the family's Christmas presents. Instead of worrying about gifts Clayton said she focused on saving others.

"That was my first thing to get the kids out--- then I went banging on the neighbors' doors," said Clayton.

With losing everything in the fire, she is left wondering what Christmas will be like this year for her family.

"They wanted all the latest things and I made sure they had all the latest things and now they are down to nothing. They have nothing," said Clayton.

The Clayton's were not the only ones left with nothing.

Devin Durham is one of the family's neighbors. As he waits for answers on how the fire started, he is focused on trying to move forward.

I don't know what caused the fire. I'm hoping details will come out but in the meantime I'm just trying to get by as best as I can," said Durham.

He's also looking at the positive, knowing everyone made it out okay.

"Although we like to take a lot of pride in our material possessions stuff is just stuff," said Durham. "As long as no one is hurt and everyone is happy and healthy that's what really matters."

The Clayton family plans to stay in a hotel. Other people we spoke with say they'll stay with friends and family.
