TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — In celebration of Memorial Day, U.S. Rep. Al Lawson honored servicemen and women at the Greenwood Cemetery and the Saint Joins Cemetery on Monday.

Following remarks from Rep. Lawson and other local leaders, the group of volunteers posted flags on the grave sites of the fallen heroes.

This is the second year the congressman has hosted the activity.

“Today, we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and remember those who have served our country around the world in the name of freedom and democracy,” Rep. Lawson said. “While, we may never fully pay tribute to their service, I hope that today’s ceremony could serve as a small token of appreciation to our fallen soldiers and their families. As the nation continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains our solemn duty to honor our heroes and mark this moment. It is through their valiant efforts that our democracy lives on.”
