LIBERTY COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Two people are dead and one child has been injured after an electrocution incident at the Liberty County High School baseball fields.
According to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened around 12:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Deputies say two adults were confirmed dead at the scene and the child was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Deputies have identified the victim's as Liberty County High School head baseball coach Corey Crum, 39, and his wife Shana Crum, 41.
The injured child was identified as their son, who has been released from the hospital.
According to a post on LCSO's facebook page, Coach Crum along with some members of the team, parents and community volunteers were having a work day at the baseball field to repair damages from Hurricane Michael.
Coach Crum was operating a boom lift, and unloading a piece of equipment from a trailer when the boom of the lift made contact with overhead power lines. This electrified the boom lift and caused Coach Crum to get electrocuted. The Coach’s wife then attempted to help him and was also electrocuted. Their son also attempted to help the two, and he was electrocuted and injured.
Students present were bused to the Liberty County High School gym where grief counselors were made available by the Liberty County School Board.
The Liberty County School Board will make counselors available to all students as long as they are needed.
