JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. — An 18-year-old has been arrested after she jumped out of a transport vehicle and then led authorities on a chase in a stolen truck.

Kaitlyn R. Payne was arrested by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, at about 9:59 a.m., JCSO received a call about Payne jumping from a private transport vehicle that was being used to take her to a court-ordered rehabilitation center.

Payne began to run on foot and attempted to break into several vehicles and was eventually able to steal a pick-up truck, and tried to flee the area.

Deputies were able to catch up to the vehicle on US-231 and Lake Point Road. Payne tried to turn onto Sherry Circle and was unable to control the vehicle and drove onto the shoulder, colliding with a power pole.

Payne then fled the scene on foot and was quickly taken into custody by a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene and continued the investigation.

She is being charged with felony grand theft auto, felony burglary of a conveyance, felony burglary of a conveyance armed, misdemeanor leaving the scene, and felony theft of firearm.
