GILCHRIST COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — A Branford man is in critical condition after a motorcycle involved crash in Gilchrist County ended in a fatal shooting.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened on Saturday around 8:30 p.m.

Troopers say both vehicles were traveling west on C.R. 138 when a 28-year-old man's Chevy 1500 crashed into the back of the Branford man's motorcycle for an unknown reason, causing the motorcycle to become lodged in the front of the car.

After an investigation, FHP determined that the 28-year-old had shot himself after the crash and died at the scene from his self-inflicted injuries. The Brandford man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the 28-year-old's death. FHP is still investigating the crash.

WTXL is choosing not to identify either party involved in the crash at this time.
