EASTPOINT, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol says one person is dead after a crash on Big Bend Scenic Byway in Eastpoint Tuesday afternoon.
FHP identified the driver as 52-year-old Byron L. Malone of Attapulgus, Georgia.
The accident happened around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday on Big Bend Scenic Bywy and NF Road-143.
Troopers say Malone was traveling northbound on Big Bend Scenic Byway when the he began drifting onto the northbound shoulder.
Malone then traveled approximately 160 feet in a northerly direction before striking several trees head-on. He died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.
Troopers say It is unknown if Malone experienced a medical situation prior to the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol is currently on the scene of a fatal accident on Big Bend Scenic Byway in Eastpoint.
According to FHP, they arrived on scene at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday. The accident happened on Big Bend Scenic Bywy and NF Road-143.
No roadblock is being reported due to the crash, though troopers are still on scene.
At this time, we don't know how many cars were involved or if there any other injuries.
