SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Two people have been arrested after they attempted to hide prescription pills a deputy found in their car by dumping them on the ground while the deputy was watching.

Tuesday afternoon, Richard Williams, 39 and Lauri Pittman, 48 were arrested in Live Oak.

During a routine patrol on U.S. 90 West, a Suwannee County deputy stopped a vehicle with an expired registration. The driver, Richard Williams, initially provided the deputy with a false name due to his drivers license being suspended.

As the deputy was speaking to Williams, he observed the passenger, Lauri Pittman, dumping pills on the ground in an attempt to hide them.

The pills were discovered to be Alprazolam. The deputy then searched the vehicle and found additional pills of Alprazolam on the front passenger seat, and an empty pill bottle with the label peeled off on the passenger side floor board.

Deputies say that Pittman admitted that the pills were hers and said she did not have a prescription for them.

Williams has been charged with providing false identification to law enforcement and driving while license suspended (knowingly). Pittman was charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance.

Both Williams and Pittman were placed under arrest and transported to the Suwannee County Jail.
